If someone said to me “you're a sigma”, Should I take it as an insult? 👁️👄👁️

I don't understand why some people take “you're a sigma” as a compliment In my opinion, I think they were trying to call me a gen alpha skibidi sigma boy yt shorts or something, I just DON'T like it! 😔

its a compliment but if someone says it unironically you should stop talking to them

better a sigma than a ligma, amirite?

I don't know what they mean. Are they hitting on me? 6-sigma is the global standard for near-perfection in business process and execution. I'd probably say something like, "Bless your heart. I'm very flattered, but I'm married." or, perhaps "Are you OK? Do you need me to call someone for you?"

It's a compliment.  Its based on a old (now debunked) study on wolves. An alpha wolf was the leader of the pack and the other males were betas. This entered common culture and being called an Alpha was a compliment.  At some point the Internet decided that there was a classy more intelligent version of an Alpha, the Sigma.  For some reason gen alpha has decided to beat that word to death. Still, it's a compliment.

I'd take it as meaning that the speaker is either a weirdo or a non-native who fucked up, because while I recognise all the words and the grammar linking them together it makes no sense at all.

It's like that "alpha"/"beta" wolf thing. S (as in Greek sigma) is better than A or B.

Sigma will lead you to a stigma

i assumed it was a situation where like a child called you a sigma and i was like "give the poor kid a break thats just how they talk" but then i realized this might be an adult... its a compliment technically but its something young people say.

It's generally intended to be a compliment. However, being complimented by anyone who classifies people that way always makes me feel worse about myself.

If they meant it unironically, they meant it as a compliment. That said, if they meant it unironically, they are a doofus.

You might respond "you call people sigmas."

Usually being called one is a good thing. It means man who is independent, successful, and attractive.

It's gen alpha BS. Take it as a compliment, then hope you don't have to hear it ever again because it's stupid unless it's ironic.

I \*think\* it's supposed to refer to people who are several standard deviations (i.e., sigma) above the mean.

I think context matters as to what their intent was.

It's probably a good thing to them, but it's an incredibly stupid concept
