What is "W" in slang in internet

kininpirihis
I know "W" is an alphabet, but I've seen it from my fb friends where they use it in their posts like "W in the chat" "W something" etc..

It means a win, or that someone is a winner. You may also see "L" be used, and that means a loss, or that someone is a loser. "F" is also used, but that's a bit more of a meme than actual slang, but it's still used enough - it comes from the "Press F to pay respects" meme, and people may say "F" when something bad happens to someone.

It's W for win, it's used to express celebration.

A W refers to "a win", literally meaning a victory, but often used to describe someone doing something successfully or with great skill.

Win. And L is lose.

Everyone is correct that it means 'win', but I'd like to add something. Another way 'cool'/slang way to say 'win' is 'dub', which comes from how you say the letter W as 'double U'. Take the first syllable and you get 'dub'. When used in front of something, like 'W parent' or 'W game', it basically just means 'really good'. Particularly, it carries a connotation that it's fulfilling or surpassing the expectations of what a good parent or game should be.

Short for “win,” it can now be used both as the noun and as an adjective describing anything positive. “W shot bro” <- your shot was nice/excellent “W mans” <- excellent male friend/companion “W swag” <- excellent sense of style. As an adjective, I would say “w” is pretty equivalent to “good, great, excellent” As others mentioned, “L,” short for “loss,” is the opposite of “W.”

Should also note that there’s another layer to this specific slang by calling something a “dub” which is the same thing as saying “W”

It stands for "win" or "winning". It’s common in gaming and livestreaming. This means something is a huge success or a great achievement or a smart or successful decision.

Win or winner

I mostly see it used in the sense of we got the W, meaning our team won. Unrelated but you might also see W in reference to former US president George W. Bush.

By the way, W is a *letter* of the alphabet. The alphabet is the whole collection of letters. *An* alphabet would refer to the letters used in another language or time period.
