don't be so ass about shit

don't be so ass about shit

What could "don't be so ass about shit" mean? I've heard this phrase few times and don't understand the meaning. My only guess is that means "don't be a nerd"

lol I've never heard this before. "ass" is commonly used to mean "bad" and "shit" is commonly used to mean "stuff," but not typically like this in the same sentence. (disclaimer: these are swear words. sometimes they're inappropriate to use) like, this is common: "I've got so much shit to do." or "the movie we saw last night was ass." so you can use that info to make sense of this statement, but it's not something I've ever heard quite this way. putting this many swear words together sounds excessively vulgar for either shock value or humor.

Never heard of it before but this seems like how small kids who just learn the word ass and shit would talk

All it’s really saying is “don’t be [negative term] [connecting word] [stuff in general].” “so ass” would generally mean being really bad at something, which contradicts the use of “about.” You can be ass at something, or be *an* ass about something, but you can’t be so ass about something, which means these words weren’t picked carefully and don’t really have any specific meaning. It’s really just saying “I don’t like something that you did” but in a very casual and curse-filled way.

'Shit' is often used to mean 'things' or 'stuff' and being 'ass' at something would mean being bad at it, or possibly being rude/mean/unpleasant... So probably 'don't be so bad/negative/rude about things.'

Could you have heard “don’t be *an* ass about shit?” or ”don’t be *such an* ass about shit?”

USA. It sounds like some really ghetto slang. Not even close to what most people would say, even using slang. My thoughts here are that shit means stuff in general or something specifically known in the context of the conversation. A better word for ass would be asshole. So, somebody is telling the other person don't be such an asshole about stuff in general or something specific known to the speakers.

"this is ass" can mean "this is bad/poor quality" And "shit" often takes the place of "stuff" So "don't be so ass about shit" could mean "don't be so bad at things." It's not typical though and pretty unclear.

It means someone is taking liberties with their cuss word grammar, which I am a fan of. Not very learner-friendly, of course. Don’t be a nerd is a good guess. Only caveat: nerd sometimes gets used affectionately, and this doesn’t feel very affectionate (though it doesn’t feel particularly mean either)

“Don’t be a jerk about stuff.”

I'd assume it was 'assed about shit' and you misheard it, in which case it would mean uptight/bothered/worried. If it is indeed 'ass about shit', I have no clue

Dont be ass could mean don't be bad at something but it could be don't be an asshole about something. Shit just means something.

Are you sure it wasn't "don't be an ass about it"? That would mean don't be mean / rude about something

I interpret this to be “don’t be a jerk about stuff” But this wouldn’t be a common use of the word “ass” instead I’d say something along the lines of “why do you have to be a bitch about shit?” Or “do you always have to be an ass about shit?” Since “so ass” is a thing just not a thing in this context. This is hard to explain though as there isn’t really a “rule” so to speak.

I would guess “don’t be so annoying about unimportant stuff”

Never heard of that one before but it gave me a good laugh.🤣 Sounds like they're just saying don't be too critical about things.

I can see this meaning "don't be so bad at stuff", but it sounds really weird.

first time i encountered someone who though ass = nerd.

The meaning is highly ambiguous. But in general, it's a request for someone to stop doing something that someone else doesnt like Simply put: 'stop. action bad'

Hahaha what. I mean I am American and I could see where someone is being goofy saying „don’t be so dumb/daft about that“ but that’s by no means a common idiom. If someone is „ass at something“ it usually implies they are inept/unskilled at something.

I think you mean "don't be (such )an ass about it" which usually means "don't be subborn" or "don't be so unskilled", depending on context.

Maybe don't be so uptight about stuff?

Gotta say, I've never heard this phrase before but it gave me a good laugh. I'd interpret it as "stop being so nitpicky/difficult/annoying about things."
