Do these plastic things tie socks together ?

Do these plastic things tie socks together ?

sassychris
1. What are they called? 2. I just got some socks I had ordered and every two pairs of socks were tied together with this thing. What’s a natural way to say this sentence? Thanks in advance!

I have no clue what it’s called and I doubt most people do. I would call it the plastic thing that pins socks together.

I will be so surprised if they have a name. We would say something like ‘those annoying little plastic things.’ And yeah, they just keep socks or underwear connected in their set for sale. I guess for your sentence, “I just got some socks that I ordered and all the pairs were clipped together with those little plastic tags” or *something* like that. We don’t have a way to say this.

1) tag that little plastic tag 2) I just got some socks and they were connected with a tag.

They are called kimbles, but it's rare for anyone to know that! If you buy them you'd search for (tagging gun) barbs. Sometimes they're named as tags. They can also just be called tagging barbs.

They're "tag pins" apparently. I just looked it up. I will agree with everyone else that nobody knows what they're called, we just cut them off, throw them away, and think no more about them.

According to a quick Google search, they're called "tag fasteners" or "Garvey tag fasteners" (Garvey being the company that seemingly manufactures all of them as well as the guns that attach them). But as others have said, the average person has no idea what they're called.

Officially called a “tag pin” or “tag fastener” also called a “tag gun fasteners” since they are applied by a handheld gun-shaped device. but not many people know the name and call them different things, mostly they’re just described: “those little plastic tag things“ is fairly common. they hold any fabric together, similar to a safety pin, but are meant to be thrown away and can’t really be reused.

They are called "the bane of my existence"

I don’t know the actual name as a native speaker. You’d probably call it “the little plastic thing” in the right context or “the plastic thing that holds the tag”

You phrased it just right. Everyone will know what you mean when you say "those little plastic things" that hold socks together, because it's a really ubiquitous experience.

i just call them tags. nobody knows what the fuck they're called, honestly you can get away with calling it a "thing" or "thingie"

They are called Kimble Barbs They're designed to keep pairs or sets together. Socks, ladies marching underwear sometimes even pjs. They also hold price tags on Most people would just say 'they came with the plastic things' because most people don't know the name of them

I don't think it's wrong to say that those things tie socks together.

While I know that do have a real name, I have only ever heard them *described* (eg. “little plastic tag thingies,” or something like that), I do not hear the. *named*.
Anindefensiblefart
Those are called "plastic thingies" in everyday, vernacular English.
