Short answer: Either one works Long answer: "Pull down" and "fold back" refer to the explicit manipulation of the object by the listener/reader. "Open/Close" refers to the state of the object. To make it simpler, to "open" the visor you pull it down. To "close" it, you fold it back. Which is more used: If I'm giving someone very clear instructions on what to do, I'll tell them to pull it down or fold it back. In general use, I'd say "open/close", because it's shorter. If someone asks me "how?" then I can clarify that they need to pull it down or fold it back.

American here. Most cases I’d probably say “open” or “close.” “Pull down/fold back” are technically correct but too formal for normal use, especially “fold back.” I might rarely use “pull down” but probably not. Maybe “flip down” instead?

I’m American. Never heard open/close the visor before. I’d say “put the visor down/up” or “put down/up the visor.” also “put the visor to the side” when you turn it to cover the side window, and then “put it back to the front” or “put it up” when you’re done.

In the case of a sun visor, I think "open/close" sounds strange. I personally would say, "put down/pull down" and "put up."

I wouldn’t even call it a visor—just say, "AaAAah! I forgot to put the sun thingy down! RrRaaH! My eyes!" In all seriousness, words like put, pull, flip, fold, lower, raise, switch, tilt, drop, adjust, bend, push, draw, slide, or even deploy would all work here.

If you were writing something formal like an instruction manual you might use *set the visor* and *stow the visor*. In regular parlance people just say whatever works for them. It's an undefined term in all my years as a Californian. *Flip*, *pull*, *put*, *use*, and *fold* will all work about the same.

I would say pull down/put up.

I'd say to "put the visor down/up."
